When this service fits

A proportionate answer to the condition of the joinery.

Traditional sash windows need small clearances to move, but worn beadings and uneven gaps let in cold air and allow the sashes to rattle. We machine brush seals into new beadings and meeting rails while keeping the window’s original appearance.

Common signs

Cold air around the sash edges
Windows that rattle in windy weather
Visible light through uneven gaps
Dust and street noise entering around the frame

How the work is approached

Survey, scope, then do the work properly.

  1. 1

    Remove and inspect

The sashes are taken out so the hidden working areas can be checked.

  2. 2

    Machine in seals

Discreet brush seals are fitted into new parting and staff beadings and at the meeting rail.

  3. 3

    Service the window

Cords and beadings are renewed as specified, then each sash is balanced and tested.

What the quotation can include.

  • New beadings where required
  • Cord replacement as specified

Questions about draught-proofing

The details worth understanding first.

Will draught-proofing change how the window looks?

The seals are designed to be discreet and are fitted into the beadings and meeting rail. From normal viewing distance, the traditional appearance is retained.

Is draught-proofing the same as double glazing?

No. Draught-proofing deals with air leakage around the moving parts. Double glazing changes the glass unit as well. Both can improve comfort, but they solve different sources of heat loss and noise.
